This all begins with Jill. Sometimes in life we are lucky enough to meet someone with whom we immediately have an inexplicable and deep connection. When Jill and Randy Offer had their first baby in 1990—Ali O.—I visited Jill in the hospital. When I got home that day, I went to the piano. It usually takes me months or years to write music, but that day Ali’s song came in about 10 minutes. It turned out I would have that wonderful experience of children’s songs just coming to me many times, including for Ali’s two brothers, Taylor and Cole, and for the other families that brought us our goddaughters Lola Mae and Esmeralda, and even Jill’s first granddaughter, Ali’s daughter, Zoe.
Though Sabina and I chose not to have kids, these songs are for just some of the many, many wonderful children who have come into our lives. It had been my dream for decades that one day I might be able to fully realize these songs beyond the rudimentary recordings I had shared with the parents through the years by hiring professional singers and adding some live musicians and orchestration. That day finally happened in Summer, 2021. Without question, it ended up being the most fun I have ever had in a recording studio, laughing and laughing as the singers so embodied the fun and love I felt in writing these songs, and the orchestrations made them come to life.
Special thanks to Peter Sprague and Spragueland Studios, for utterly perfect guitar work and the usual amazing expertise as editor and engineer, Allison Adams Tucker and Leonard Patton for vocals that lift my heart every time I listen, my nameless, extraordinary assistant arranger and master MIDI orchestrator, to my wife Sabina, who co-wrote Cole and Lola Mae and is my source for the most wonderful musical support every writer should be so lucky to have, and to Jill, where it all starts, for being such a warm, motherly presence in my life all these years, my sweet friend I always know is a heartbeat away no matter the time that goes by or the distance between us.

Who’s that lovin’ on your big blue eyes - Everyone knows it’s me
Your eyes need to know

Lola Mae wakes up in her Mommy’s arms And looks into her eyes
She sees that Mommy loves little Lola Mae
And Daddy’s by her side
Lola Mae goes onto her Daddy’s lap
And looks into his eyes
She sees that Daddy loves little Lola Mae
With Gottis* by his side
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
Lola Mae, You’re amazing
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
In your eyes, we see we are too
Lola Mae looks into her Gottis’ eyes
She’s known from days of old
And they begin to sing-a-ling her song
With all their heart and soul
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
Lola Mae, You’re amazing
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
In your eyes, we see we are too
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
Lola Mae, You’re amazing
Lola Mae, Lola Mae-zing
In your eyes, we see we are too
In our eyes, you see you are too
